Pioneering Spirit departures from Rotterdam port to recommence works on TurkStream

8 June 2018

On 8 June Pioneering Spirit departed from the Rotterdam port and is now sailing towards the Black Sea. The vessel had completed the first line of TurkStream and laid the first 224 kilometers of the second line up until the the border of Russian and Turkish Exclusive Economic Zones towards Kiyikoy in Turkey. Upon its return to the Black Sea, Pioneering Spirit will resume pipelaying of the second offshore string for TurkStream and will bring the second line to the Kiyikoy border as well.

Prior to this on 2 June Pioneering Spirit successfully installed 22,000 t Drilling platform topsides on the Norwegian continental shelf. This work was the first platform installation job performed by Pioneering Spirit, and the heaviest installation ever executed in a single lift offshore to date.

Background

The first line of the gas pipeline is intended for the Turkish consumers, while the second line is designated for the Southern and South-Eastern Europe. Each line will have the throughput capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year. South Stream Transport B.V. is responsible for the construction of the gas pipeline’s offshore section.
